Two self-employed men pleads guilty to bribing immigration officer

JOHOR BARU: Two self-employed men pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court today to separate charges of bribing an immigration officer earlier this month.
Pee Thian Kat, 50, was sentenced to 7 days jail and fined RM10,000 or in default six months jail, while Tan Yap Sai, 55, was given a 3-day jail sentence and fined RM10,000 or in default six months jail.
Both appeared separately before Sessions Court Judge Mohamad Haldar Abdul Aziz.
Pee was charged with giving RM1,000 to immigration officer Mohd Ahfaizal Abd. Rahman as an inducement not to take action against a Bangladeshi, Md Majun, as the latter did not have legal documents, under the Immigration Act 1959/63, at 11.30am on May 5 at KM200, Jalan Buluh Kasap, Batu Anam, Segamat.
Tan was charged with giving RM50 to Mohd Ahfaizal as an inducement not to take action against an Indonesian,Sukono Mirun, as the later did not have any valid travel document at 11am on May 5 at the same place.
Both were charged under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.
Prosecuting officer from the MACC Norsyarina Raizan prosecuted while the two accused were not represented.
