KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pix) has called Muslims in Malaysia to stay united, regardless of differences or ideologies they stand for.
Calling the Muslims to move forward, Ahmad Zahid said he did not want them, despite representing the majority population, to be lacking in strength.
"As long as we hold Islam as our ad-Din (faith), regardless of our organisations or political parties, we put aside our differences in the name of Islam," he said.
"We do not want the Muslims in Malaysia to be that way (divided). We want Muslims in Malaysia to unite," he said in his speech at the "Zikir Perdana Sedunia 2016" at Putra Mosque here.
Ahmad Zahid told the country's Muslims to be wary as there are "those out there" who were jealous with the strength of Muslims and Islam.
"The jealousy is with the basis as they do not want to see Islam to be strong and united.
"Instead, they want to see Islam being divided and ruled," he added.
He said only through unity that Muslims would be able to quash the hatred sown by the outside parties.
In praising the event, Ahmad Zahid said such programmes would be able to strengthen the Muslim community in the country.
He also assured that the government would provide its assistance for such event to be held again in the future.
