LABUAN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) Labuan has fixed the ceiling price for 12 controlled items for 10 days, from May 23 to June 1, according to the Festive Season Price Control Scheme in conjunction with Kaamatan on May 30.
State Consumer Movement Council chairman Fauziah Datuk Mohd Din said the scheme would be implemented in accordance with the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.
She said among the items were live chicken, standard chicken, super chicken, chicken wing, chicken eggs - grades A, B, C, imported buffalo (India), shallot (India), China Garlic, pork (belly) and pork (lean and fat).
Fauziah said under the Act, companies are subject to a compound of not more than RM500,000 and individuals are subject to a compound of not more than RM100,000 or a jail term of not more than three years or both, if they failed to follow the rules.
"The ministry will continue with its efforts to protect consumers from profiteering by unethical traders during the festive season and enforcement officers will be placed in popular locations such as the central market to monitor and conduct inspection on traders," she said at the launch of the scheme at D'One Mart here today.
Fauziah said the Ministry had distributed information on the ceiling prices to traders on the scheme and public through the mass media and KPDNKK's website.
"This scheme is to ensure consumers will be able to obtain these items during the festive season at a reasonable price and to prevent a price hike," she said. — Bernama
