IPOH: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry is to step up enforcement at business centres to ensure that traders do not raise prices arbitrarily and engage in extreme profiteering during the fasting month of Ramadan.
Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said today the officers conducted enforcement not only during the fasting month but stepped up enforcement to check on errant traders.
"We engage in enforcement all the time. We are stepping up enforcement at places where traders are suspected to raise prices to make extreme profits," he told reporters after closing a basic course on enforcement in Ulu Kinta here.
Hamzah said traders must adhere to good business ethics and be helpful.
"During the month of Ramadan, traders can help consumers, especially Muslims, by not raising prices too high," he said. — Bernama
