GEORGE TOWN: Two factory workers were sentenced to the gallows by the High Court here today after they were found guilty of murdering a man five years ago.
Judicial Commissioner Datuk Nordin Hassan made the decision after finding that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt against the prosecution at the end of the defence case.
V.Veeran, 34, and M. Sasitharan, 25, were charged with murdering S. Vijaindran on the five-foot way in between shops number 24 and 26, Jalan Tasek SS/1, Bandar Tasek Mutiara in Seberang Perai Selatan at 11pm on June 4, 2011.
Nordin in his decision said there was credible evidence in the testimony of the 12th witness.
"The 12th witness saw both the accused hacked the victim repeatedly to death," he said.
In 2014, the two accused were charged with murdering the man, who was their mutual acquaintance, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Jailani Abdul Rahman.
Defence counsel RSN Rayer, when met, said he would file an appeal against the decision. — Bernama
