PETALING JAYA: Investigations into the uncovered deep pipe-jacking pit at Jalan Universiti which caused a senior citizen to drive into it is still ongoing, said Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) mayor Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain (pix).
Mohd Azizi told reporters that the investigation process is being conducted by three different agencies and departments, mainly the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh), the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and MBPJ.
"All parties would take into consideration recommendations from each other before coming out with a final report on the incident," he said after chairing the council's monthly meeting today.
Mohd Azizi also said the stop work order issued has yet to be lifted and that it would be lifted once the council is satisfied with the safety measures provided by the contractors.
On May 3, the car driven by 86-year-old former Methodist Boys School headmaster Yong Chee Seng plunged into the 10m deep construction hole. Yong who was warded at the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) following the accident, subsequently passed away on May 14
Meanwhile, on the issue of a runaway crane which damaged a house and car in Section 17 last week, Mohd Azizi said the council would not be imposing any ban that prohibits heavy vehicles from utilising residential roads.
"If we are to impose any restriction then we need to inform the contractors or developer on roads they are allowed to use and this would create more hassle and problems for everyone," he said.
