GEORGE TOWN: Three local fishermen were rescued by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) after being adrift at sea on Tuesday following a boat engine malfunction.
MMEA district two enforcement chief First Admiral Kmaruszaman Abu Hassan said the fishermen left the Sungai Tembus jetty in Penaga at about 6.30am that day, and the engine developed problems about 6.3 nautical miles off the Muka Head coast.
A distress call was received about 1.05pm the same day and a search and rescue effort was initiated with the trio located and brought back to the jetty about 6.30pm, he added.
He said the fishermen were found safe and unharmed except for one of them who hurt a finger after attempting to repair the engine.
"There were some difficulties due to the bad weather but we managed to get the boat and the men back," he said in a statement today.
