KUALA KANGSAR: National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) called on borrowers who face financial difficulties to discuss their mode of payment with them rather then being ignorant as it can restructure the amount as per their capability.
PTPTN chairman Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said they should approach the officers to find a solution rather than default payment or make no move to pay or play ignorant.
Borrowers are supposed to pay back their loans six months after they graduate from institutes of higher learning.
"But many chose to ignore the payment," he told reporters after officiating a get together of pupils with the PTPTN and the welfare association of wives of elected representatives in Perak (BAIDURI) headed by its president Datin Seri Saripah Zulkifli at Sekolah Kebangsaan Raja Perempuan Muzwin here today.
Since 1997, PTPTN has given out RM55 billion in loans to 2.4 million applicants.
Shamsul Anuar said although the monthly repayment figure had improved but has yet to reach their target of RM15.8 billion collection. Only RM7.49 billion had been settled until February this year since 1997," he added.
He said they were now in the midst of studying how to deduct the loan repayments from the salary of private sector employees. PTPTN has implemented the salary deduction in civil servants.
As to the event, he said, it was part of their Corporate Social Responsibility programme as they don't want to be seen as only giving out loans.
