GEORGE TOWN: Family members who claimed of toxic smelly gas emitted from a factory next to their home in Kampung Permatang can take legal action if they wish to as on the part of the government agencies the allegation has been cleared.
State Welfare,Caring Society,Health and Environment committee chairman Phee Boon Poh (pix) said the legal action should be initiated by the family and borne by them solely.

He said the Department of Environment (DOE) and Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) have found that the factory had complied with the law and the alleged smelly gas emitted was not toxic and not dangerous.
Based on the investigation conducted by DOE, he said, the air pollution index at the site was 4.8889 which is very low and in accordance to the standard set by the department
In January, the family told a press conference that they suffered "poor health" ever since the factory started its operation near their home in 2014 and their jackfruit tree, plants and pet birds had died - all because of the alleged toxic gas emitted.
Earlier to the press conference, Phee held a meeting with DOE, MPSP, Public Complaints committee and representatives of Machang Bubuk and Bukit Mertajam assemblymen.
The family members did not turn up.
