BUKIT MERTAJAM: While the Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) has been taking action against members of the public for using the parking lots allocated for persons with disabilities (OKU), a council officer was caught abusing this facility at its headquarters.
The MPSP president Datuk Maimunah Mohd Sharif who was made aware of it reprimanded the officer and said he was setting a bad example.
On being questioned, the officer claimed that he had to park at the OKU lot as his car broke down within the council compound.
Maimunah said she had left the matter to the council secretary Rozali Mohamud to handle and initiate appropriate action.
MPSP has been creating awareness on OKU parking lots by putting signboards, colouring the parking bays and even showing video clips.
"I expect my staff to adhere to the law and I cannot condone those who violate it, including the staff," she added.
On another issue, she urged the staff to start segregating waste at source before it comes into force on June 1.
