BUTTERWORTH: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today summoned State Health, Agriculture and Agro-based Industries and Rural Development Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin to assist in ongoing investigations into the sale of land at South Seberang Prai by the Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda).
Afif's statement was recorded at MACC's Seberang Perai office in Jalan Kampung Jawa here.
He arrived at 10.25am accompanied by his lawyer Bukit Tengah assemblymen Ong Chin Wen.
When approached by reporters, Afif said he was notified of the summons by MACC last week.
"I am here to provide information to MACC and my focus now is to assist in the investigations.
"As this issue involves public interest, I hope the MACC can conduct a thorough investigation," he said.
The investigation by MACC follows a report lodged by Afif on April 7.
The Penang government had earlier urged the MACC to conduct a thorough investigation into the sale of land by Perda.
The state had queried how plots totaling 3.4ha could be sold at RM1.427 million as the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) had valued the land at RM16.636 million, noting the discrepancy was RM15.209 million.
