Tun Mohd Khalil sworn in as Yang Dipertua of Malacca for fourth term

MALACCA: Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob was sworn in as the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka for a fourth term, in a ceremony held at Dewan Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh, here today.
Mohd Khalil then signed the letter of appointment, witnessed by Malacca High Court Judge Datuk Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera.
The ceremony was attended by Mohd Khalil's wife, Toh Puan Zurina Kassim, Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron, Senator Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam, Malacca state executive council members, members of Parliament, and state
assemblymen.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah had presented the letter of appointment to Mohd Khalil yesterday.
Mohd Khalil, 78, was appointed as the sixth Governor of Malacca on June 2, 2004, and sworn in on June 4, 2004, replacing Tun Syed Ahmad Shahabudin.
Born in Kuantan, Pahang, Mohd Khalil has held several posts in the Cabinet – as deputy minister of Education (1982-1984), minister in the Prime Minister's Department (1984-1986) and minister of Information (1999-2004) – besides holding
the Pahang menteri besar's post for 13 years, from 1986 to 1999. — Bernama
