Man detained for suspected abuse of seven-year-old stepson

    JOHOR BARU: Police arrested a man at his home in the Taman Selesa Jaya Flats, Skudai here yesterday after he was believed to have abused his seven-year-old stepson.
    Iskandar Puteri district police chief, Supt Noor Hashim Mohamad said the man, 40, was detained at about 5pm after police received a report from a doctor at a health clinic in Skudai at 11am yesterday.
    "The boy was taken to the clinic by the school authorities on May 17 after he complained of pain all over his body.
    "The doctor's examination found that he has suffered injuries including internal bleeding in the right eye, bruises around his left eye and on his back, as well as pinch marks on his body," he said in a statement today.
    Noor Hashim said during the initial investigation, the man who did not have a permanent job, admitted to beating his stepson.
    He said the boy lived in the house with his mother who was the man's second wife.
    "The boy is suspected to have been abused as he often brought home items belonging to his schoolmates which made the suspect angry," he added.
    The man is now being remanded from today until Monday to facilitate the investigation under Section 31 (1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. — Bernama
