PAS hopes for a straight fight in Kuala Kangsar

KUALA KANGSAR: PAS hopes the by-election for the Kuala Kangsar Parliamentary constituency next month will be a straight fight with the Barisan Nasional (BN).
PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (pix) said there should not be any three-cornered fight in the by-election.
"If there is a three-cornered fight, the people may be disappointed, but we will still face the challenge because the seat is traditionally a PAS seat, there should not be a three-cornered fight," he told reporters after the announcement of the PAS candidate at the Bukit Chandan field near the Kuala Kangsar PAS headquarters, here late last night.
The Kuala Kangsar by-election could see a three-cornered fight if Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) announces its candidate on June 1, while BN will announce its candidate this afternoon.
On the PAS candidate for the Kuala Kangsar by-election, Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad, Tuan Ibrahim said he was confident that the head of the Perak PAS women's wing was capable of winning the Parliamentary seat.
"There is no issue of an outsider being the candidate. What is important is having a local candidate. It's also pointless if the local candidate lives in Kuala Lumpur," he said.
The Kuala Kangsar by-election is being held following the death of the incumbent Member of Parliament Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak, on May 5.
The Election Commission has set June 18 as polling day for the Kuala Kangsar Parliamentary by-election while nomination day is June 5.
In the 13th General Election, Wan Mohammad Khair-il obtained a majority of 1,082 votes, beating Khalil Idham Lim Abdullah from PAS and Independent candidate Datuk Kamilia Ibrahim. — Bernama
