KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has seized 225 housing units under the People's Housing Project (PPR) and Public Housing (PA) this year after the renters were found to have committed various breaches, including renting out their units to foreigners.
The stern action by the DBKL was carried out after it had issued a total of 582 notices of confiscation to the renters concerned between January and May 25.
DBKL Economic Development Executive Director Datuk Mohd Sauffi Mohamad warned that he would not compromise with renters found to have breached the housing condition.
The seizures were made through six series of integrated operations carried out by the DBKL Housing Management and Community Development Department together with other government agencies.
Mohd Sauffi said that besides renting out their units to foreigners, some of the renters were also found to have arrears of rentals to the DBKL, not occupying (leaving vacant) and renting out their units to illegal occupants (subletting their units).
"After this, we will no longer compromise with renters found to have abused and violated the conditions for renting the houses, we want the units to be utilised by those who truly deserve the facility," he said.
He was speaking to reporters when participating in the seventh series of the DBKL integrated operations with the police, Immigration Department, and National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) at the Desa Rejang Public Housing, here last night.
"Following the operations last night, three housing units were seized back, 26 units (invalid tenants) and 19 units (non-occupying tenants) were given 14 days to vacate the units, before the units are sealed," he said.
Following the increase in the number of cases, Mohd Sauffi said the DBKL in collaboration with the relevant agencies would carry out large-scale operations on all the PPR and PA, here after the Aidilfitri. — Bernama
