SUBANG: MIC's Emergency General Meeting (EGM) turned into an ugly affair as supporters of former party president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel tried to enter and partipate in the meeting, creating tension between both factions, at the One City Mall, USJ 25, here, today.
This as former MIC treasurer-general Datuk R. Ramanan was seen trying to negotiate with the police to gain entrance to the meeting as the place was barricaded by Light Strike Force (LSF) personnel.
The unruly crowd of about 30 to 40 people were seen cursing and yelling that the EGM is unconstitutional and that current president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam was being unfair to party members.
The situation then got heated as both factions of the Barisan Nasional component party began to throw water bottles as they ontinued to argue with each other.
Party president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said the EGM held was lawful and maintains an open stand for former party members to rejoin the party.
"The EGM today is legal. I maintain an open stand, former members have the opportunity to rejoin us. I hope that those who were making noise outside just now, will be speaking from within in the future," he said with a smirk.
On Ramanan's claim of being invited today, Subramaniam said all "recognised" delegates were allowed to enter the hall.
