Federal Govt allocates RM152m to Perak for SUKMA 2018

KUALA KANGSAR: The federal government is allocating RM152 million to the Perak state government for organising the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2018, said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
He said the allocation would be utilised to enable the redevelopment and repair of several sports infrastructure in Perak.
"This is the commitment of the federal government to assist Perak in providing all the facilities.
"But the allocation (RM152 million) does not include the Valedrom Rakyat Ipoh which will be repaired either at the end of this year or early next year," he told reporters after officiating the Fit Malaysia @ Perak 2016 programme, here today.
About 12,000 people participated in the programme which involved running and cycling.
Asked on the maintenance and management of the velodrom after the organisation of the 2018 Sukma, Khairy said the ministry would hold further discussions with the Ipoh City Council (MBI) on the matter.
Earlier in his speech, Khairy challenged Perak to become not only the best Sukma host but also to emerge as the champion of the meet.
"I hope Perak will set up the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) to emerge as the Sukma 2018 champion," he said.
Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the allocation from the federal government would be utilised to repair several facilities including the stadium and shooting range besides building a new swimming pool in Ipoh. — Bernama
