DPM arrives in Tokyo for five-day working visit

TOKYO: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pix) arrived here Sunday to begin a five-day working visit to Japan, aimed at fostering greater bilateral relations with the world's third largest economy.
Ahmad Zahid and his wife, Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis, flew into Haneda Airport at about 6.30pm.
They were received by Malaysian ambassador to Japan Datuk Ahmad Izlan Idris, Japanese ambassador to Malaysia Makio Miyagawa as well as Malaysian diplomats and officials based in Japan.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Home Minister, has been invited to deliver a keynote address at the 34th Japan-Malaysia Economic Association (JAMECA) and Malaysia-Japan Economic Association (MAJECA) Joint Conference.
He is scheduled to meet his Japanese counterpart Taro Aso, a number of other ministers as well as high-ranking government officials.
Also on his itinerary is a roundtable meeting with captains of industry as well as individual sessions with the Japanese private sector.
The deputy prime minister will also meet with members of the Malaysian community. — Bernama
