KUALA LUMPUR: Researchers are urged to collaborate with global analysts to better their studies and understand similar problems when they arise.
Science, Technology and Innovation deputy minister Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah (pix) said this can be done, for instance, by participating in the annually-held ICT Bio-Asia Workshop which is being currently conducted at Institute of Research Management and Monitoring (IPPP) in Universiti Malaya (UM).
"This is an opportunity for us because we need to see if the problems faced by us are the same as in other countries. We want to compare researches such as biomass, Aedes, cyber crime as well as to learn more on how to reduce the carbon footprint which we have targeted to reduce by 40% by 2020," he added.
At the end of these sessions, he said, they hope that Malaysia's researches can be commercialised internationally with the findings submitted to the ministry and National Security Council (MKN) for review.
"The studies conducted will then be enhanced as we also need to change our lifestyle," he said in a press conference today after launching the two-day workshop here which is being attended by 200 researchers worldwide.
The four main areas of focus are Biomass and Renewable Energies, Cyber security, Green Smart Cities, Health and Wellbeing.
Present with him was French ambassador Christophe Penot and UM vice-chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Amin Jalaludin.
