7 accused acquitted on drug trafficking charge

JOHOR BARU: Seven men who were charged with heroin trafficking were acquitted by the High Court today.
Judge Datuk Mohd Sofian Abd Razak acquitted them without calling for the defence as the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case.
The seven were charged with trafficking in 62.36g of heroin at the car park of a hotel at Jalan Datuk Sulaiman here at 6.30pm on Jan 18, 2014. The charge was under 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Act 1952.
The accused are Lee Keat Seang, 31; Mohd. Azahari Ariffin, 30; Muhammad Asri Saripudin, 19; Mohd Noor Hafizi Baba, 25; Md. Jazzulie Md. Salleh, 24; Mohamad Fahmi Bakar, 23; and Rahman Taib, 42.
They were represented by V. Anitha, Suhaimi Mahsud, Md. Zahar Ngah, Mohammad Abd. Kadir, HJ. Rosli Kamaruddin, Subash Ramasamy and Vimala Arunasalam respectively.
DPP Norafiah Sani prosecuted.
