5 men plead guilty to illegally obtaining parking fees

KUALA LUMPUR: Five men, including a foreigner pleaded guilty to illegally obtaining parking fees from motorists in several locations in the city.
Today at the Magistrates Court, Zainal Samat, 53, A. Narasinga Rao, 37, Sri Lankan national Puwakdandawe Muhandiramge Geeth Sampath, 40, G. Joseph Mano, 33 and G. Vikramraj, 30 were charged under Section 50 (3) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum jail term of six months, or fine of up to RM2,000 if convicted.
Magistrate Noorul Fhaiez Mohd Nayan fined Zainal, Nagasinga, Joseph, and Vikramraj RM500 in default five days jail while Puwakdandawe was fined RM550 in default five days jail.
They were charged separately for asking motorists to park their vehicles and illegally obtaining payment from them in several locations, including Jalan Medan Tuanku, Jalan Metro Pudu 2 and Jalan Metro Pudu, between 9.55pm on May 27 and 2.20am on May 28.
Azlindayanty Mohd Termizi and Hashimah Hashim prosecuted for the Road Transport Department while the accused were unrepresented.
It was reported that over the weekend, the RTD, in a joint operation with the police, National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), and the Immigration Department, nabbed nine "jaga kereta" boys who extorted money from motorists in Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam.
