‘Ex-CID chief did not receive any commission’

KUALA LUMPUR: The sessions court was told that former Kuala Lumpur CID chief SAC Datuk Ku Chin Wah did not receive any commission from the sales transaction of two properties in Bukit Bintang here, in 2009 and 2013.
Businessman Datuk Seri Kok Kuan Hwa, who testified before judge Sohaini Alias, said he had issued a 1% commission to a Datuk Khoo Ah See during the purchase of two properties – the Izumi Hotel and Fortuna Hotel, both located in Jalan Berangan, in 2009 and 2013 respectively.
He added that the 1% commission was worth RM55,000 and RM98,000 respectively for both properties.
"I made a verbal agreement to give the 1% commission to Khoo for the transactions," he said when questioned by deputy public prosecutor Budiman Lutfi Mohamad, adding that the commission was paid in the form of cheque and cash.
However, he told the court that no such agreement was made with Ku.
Kok also told the court that he met Ku through Khoo during a meeting session three or four years ago.
Kok also said the property, which is now Izumi Hotel, was purchased by Bukit Bintang Harvest Sdn Bhd from vendor Kencana Yakin Sdn Bhd for RM5.5 million on Nov 10, 2009.
He also told the court that the property, which is now known as Fortuna Hotel, was purchased by KKH Pavilion Developer Sdn Bhd from vendor Metroflo Sdn Bhd for RM98 million on Aug 1, 2013.
Kok said he was the director in both Bukit Bintang Harvest and KKH Pavilion Developer.
Ku was charged under Section 49(3) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 for failing to declare his earnings in a sworn statement dated Jan 8, 2014.
He was alleged to have committed the offences between Dec 23, 2013 and Jan 21, 2014 at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya.Trial continues on Aug 3.
