Former banker gets 20 years jail, 24 cane strokes

PETALING JAYA: A former financial adviser of Maybank was today sentenced to 20 years jail and ordered to be given 24 strokes of the rotan by the Sessions Court here over 56 charges of criminal breach of trust involving some RM5.45 million.
Judge Zamri Bakar passed the sentence after Jamaluddin Mohd Jamil, 35, maintained his guilty plea.
He was charged with committing the offences at the Maybank branch in Bandar Baru Selayang, Selangor.
According to the charge sheet, Jamaluddin committed the offences between early 2013 and June 2015, which involved financial transactions of RM2,000 and RM700,000 from 33 potential investors.
He was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping for each charge.
Jamaluddin was unrepresented during proceedings while deputy public prosecutor Raimi Ramli appeared for the prosecution.
