Court fines five illegal parking touts

SHAH ALAM: Five illegal parking touts were fined RM1,000 each in the magistrate's court here today after pleading guilty to a charge of forcing and ordering drivers to park their vehicles without authority and illegally demanding payment from them.
Magistrate P. Sarulatha imposed the RM1,000 fine on Ahmad Zafril Zainudin, 31, Syahrul Erwan Muhammad, 36, Megat Hazrin Hazmi, 35, Mohamad Sharif Hassan, 61, Zulhilmy Rohani, 28.
They were charged under Section 50 (3) of the Road Transport Act 1987, punishable under Section 119(2) of the same act, which carries a maximum jail term of six months, or fine of up to RM2,000 or both if convicted.
The accused, who are all locals, were charged separately for asking motorists to park their vehicles and illegally obtaining payment from them in several locations, including Section 15 and Section 24 near here, between 11.30pm on May 27 and 1.30am on May 28.
Bernard Surendran and A. Tamilmani prosecuted for the Road Transport Department (RTD) while the accused were unrepresented.
It was reported that over the weekend, the RTD, in a joint operation with the police, National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) and the Immigration Department, nabbed nine "jaga kereta" boys who extorted money from motorists in Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam.
