Family of MH17 cabin crew file civil suit against MAS and MAB

KUALA LUMPUR: The families of six cabin crew members on board Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, which was shot down on July 17, 2014, filed a civil suit for negligence and breach of contract of employment today.
The 11 members of the families claimed Malaysia Airlines was negligent over the charting of the course, which caused MH17 to fly through a known conflict zone.
They also claim that Malaysia Airlines breached the contract of employment for failing to ensure safety of the flight cabin crew.
The suit against Malaysian Airline System Berhad (MAS) and Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) was filed at the High Court registry through lawyer T. Balan Nair.
The deceased cabin crew members were Mohd Ghafar Abu Bakar, an in-flight supervisor; Lee Hui Pin, a leading flight stewardess and three stewardesses - Chong Yee Pheng, Hamfazlin Sham Mohamed Arifin and Nur Shazana Mohamed Salleh -and flight steward Sanjid Singh Sandhu.
The plaintiffs are Sharom Bee Mohamed Ibrahim, 60, and Mohamed Salleh, 56, (the parents of Nur Shazana); Mohd Tarmizi Ismail, 43, (Hamfazlin's husband); Tan Bee Geok, 46, (wife of Sanjid); Normi Abdullah@Florence George Empiong, 56, (wife of Mohd Ghafar) and Mohd Ghafar's two children - Sa'imah Baizura Mohd Ghafar, 31, and 'Ammar Syarif Mohd Ghafar, 27; Wong Kin Wah, 44 (Lee's husband) and Chong Seng See, 45, Yee Swee Seng, 74, and Chong Yuk Sang, 75 (Yee Pheng's brother and parents) .
They are seeking damages for loss of support, for pain and suffering, traumatic psychiatric injury, nervous shock and post-traumatic stress disorder, aggravated and exemplary damages.
Flight MH17 departed from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, and was shot down over a conflict zone in eastern Ukraine.
