BUTTERWORTH: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix) who is also the chairman of Perbadanan Pembekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) has proposed several measures to the federal government to maintain sufficient water supply in the state.
His suggestions include stopping illegal logging activities in Ulu Muda and convincing the Kedah state government to gazette Ulu Muda which has a water catchment area as a forest reserve.
During his speech after officiating at Package 12 of the Water Treatment Plant in Sungai Dua, Lim said such a move would ensure sufficient supply of raw water for Kedah, Penang and Perlis.
"Next, the federal government also needs to implement the Sungai Perak Raw Water Transfer Scheme (SPRWTS) which will benefit the people of Perak and Penang.
"The SPRWTS is a solution which is good for both states. It allows Perak and Penang to explore a second option for raw water resources which is as big as Sungai Muda which will fulfill demand right up to 2050," he said.
