KUALA KANGSAR: The Water Treatment Plant in Kampung Senawar has the capacity to supply 66 million litres of treated water daily to residents of Kuala Kangsar and surrounding areas.
Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the RM46 million plant was in addition to several existing plants built by the state government through the Perak Water Board (LAP) in Kuala Kangsar.
"The construction of the water treatment plant which began in August 2014, was completed within 20 months.
"Residents have also indirectly, benefited from the construction of roads leading to the plant," he told reporters after launching the new plant here today.
He said by 2030, it was expected that the water supply needs of residents in the district would increase to 60 million litres a day, and the construction of the plant would be able to accommodate the demand.
Meanwhile, Zambry said LAP's governance was also recognised as the best in the country by Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) over the past several years, whereby, it had successfuly recorded net profits of RM100 million annually.
"Due to this good governance, we have managed to provide free water to 11, 321 poor families in the state, including 1,969 registered places of worship. In Kuala Kangsar alone, about 695 poor families and 192 houses of worship receive free water," he added.
He also said there were certain states interested in obtaining water from Perak. However, it was still in the evaluation and discussion stage.
Also present were PAAB chairman Tan Sri Mohd Tajol Rosli Ghazali and LAP general manager Datuk Mohd Yusof Mohd Isa.
