Guan Eng to avoid 'angry polemics' during Ramadan

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix) has chosen not to engage in any verbal tiff with his political opponents during the month of Ramadan, which is considered holy by Muslims.
His stance came after he was asked to respond to PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang who reportedly accused DAP of blocking the Islamic struggle by the Islamist political party through supporting Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections.
Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, said he did not want to engage in angry polemics during the fasting month.
He, nonetheless, defended the support of his party for Amanah, pointing out that Amanah is part of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) alliance which includes DAP and PKR.
Kuala Kangsar is being contested by Ahmad Termzi of Amanah, Datin Matsura Mohd Yazid of BN, Najihatussalehah Ahmad of PAS and independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.
Sungai Besar, meanwhile, will see Azhar Abdul Shukur of Amanah, Dr Abdul Rani Osman of PAS and Budiman Mohd Zohdi of BN, in a three-cornered fight.
Lim was speaking to reporters at his office here where Penang Development Corporation (PDC) general manager Datuk Rosli Jaafar earlier unveiled plans to refurbish and restore three state government-owned warehouse at the junction of Lebuh Victoria and Lebuh Acheh here.
Rosli said the cost was estimated to be about RM9.7 million and a tender will be called in July.
"The design will blend in with the existing building typology and surroundings," he added.
Lim said the refurbished space will be made available to traditional trades at subsidised rates.
