KUALA LUMPUR: Police and Road Transport Department (RTD) are unperturbed with the torrent of information available on mobile traffic app Waze and Twitter feeds about the locations of enforcement personnel.
While admitting that mobile app technology advancement may slightly disrupt police operations, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh is convinced that Waze will not pose a big hindrance in combating crimes.
"We are aware of the public submitting information on Waze and other apps from time to time about the whereabouts of authorities whenever we are visible on the road or when a patrol car hails down suspects or traffic offenders," he said.
"But we know what to do to curb and combat crimes," he added.
Mohmad is aware that the dissemination of information is getting faster nowadays with the existence of mobile gadgets but he insisted that "police have own strategy to nab criminals".
He was speaking to reporters after presenting certificate of appreciation to police, RTD and media personnel in conjunction with the Special Op against Tonto recently.
RTD director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad described ‎the operation as a success and said it would be extended to other states soon.
"At the moment we are focusing on three states, namely Perak, Selangor and Negri Sembilan. But we are ready to ensure this joint operation with police is continued as long as it should.
