BALIK PULAU: All parties contesting in the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections have been urged to refrain from making crude remarks as a sign of respect for the holy month of Ramadan.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix) said those who used words like “babi” should apologise and also retract their words.

“The contest should be clean without resorting to such remarks,” he said in a press conference after launching a waste separation program at the Batu Maung constituency today.

Lim also said his party will be assisting Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) whose candidates are contesting in the by-elections.

“We will follow the direction set by Amanah,” he said, adding that he will be campaigning at Kuala Kangsar tomorrow.

In his speech earlier, Lim said the target was for the state to achieve a 40% recycling rate by 2020, up from the current 32%.

He said the waste separation scheme will reduce the amount of waste handled by the Penang Island City Council and Seberang Prai Municipal Council which will translate into cost savings.

He pointed out RM1.2 million is spent monthly on transporting waste from the Ampang Jajar Waste Transfer Station to the Pulau Burong landfill.

“People can only live comfortably and happily in a clean and green environment,” he said, adding that efforts to preserve the environment is important for the benefit of future generations.
