'Passion of the Christ' sequel in progress

THE most successful independent film of all time is getting a follow-up and, though it's still very early days, Mel Gibson's sequel to The Passion of the Christ will focus on the resurrection of Jesus.
Strictly speaking, the resurrection episode was touched upon in the epilogue of 2004's The Passion of the Christ, but a fuller treatment is being worked on by screenwriter Randall Wallace.
If the surname sounds familiar in connection with Mel Gibson's filmography, Wallace wrote 1995 blockbuster Braveheart, starring the self-directed Gibson as medieval period Scottish leader William Wallace.
He went on to write The Man in the Iron Mask, which he directed, along with Gibson vehicle We Were Soldiers and another faith-based film Heaven is for Real; Pearl Harbor was of course directed by Michael Bay.
Having most recently written Hacksaw Ridge, also for and starring Mel Gibson, Wallace confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that he "always wanted to tell this story. 'The Passion' is the beginning and there's a lot more story to tell." — AFP Relaxnews
