Najib hails inter-religious tolerance among Malaysians

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today hailed the inter-religious tolerance and understanding among the majority of Malaysians.
Writing in his blog, www.najibrazak.com, he related the incident where a non-Muslim customer handed a bottle of water to a Muslim counter clerk who continued working without breaking fast at the appointed time.
He said the customer told the girl: "It's alright, break your fast first. We can wait."
Najib said this was just one of several such gestures during the month of Ramadan which could be cited to show the extent of inter-religious tolerance and understanding in the majority of Malaysians.
The Prime Minister said he was happy to see many non-Muslims among the patrons of Ramadan bazaars, which he added enlivened the atmosphere.
"This is the beauty of diversity that exists only in Malaysia. The Ramadan bazaar is not just a place for traders to do business and customers to buy food and drinks.
"It is a place to forge goodwill amongst us regardless of religious beliefs," he said.
Najib also urged Muslims in the country to take advantage of the month of Ramadan to engage in worship and perform acts of charity. — Bernama
