Tengku Abdullah calls on armed forces, police to help repair homes of storm victims

TEMERLOH: Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, has called on the armed forces and the police, as well as government agencies, to help repair the homes of villagers here who were affected by the Saturday storm.
He said the social service carried out through the Jiwa Murni programme could reduce the burden of the villagers in view of the upcoming Aidilfitri.
"We call on the armed forces to help to speed up the repair work on the affected houses before Aidilfitri. I hope this can be done with the cooperation of the district office and the villagers. If the police want to participate, that would be highly appreciated."
He said this at the handing-over ceremony of contributions for the thunderstorm victims from three affected villages, namely Kampung Desa Murni Sanggang, Desa Murni Songsang and Desa Murni Kerdau here today.
Also present were the chairman of the State Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin who is also Lanchang assemblyman, chairman of the State Islamic Propagation and Special Tasks Committee chairman Datuk Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad, who is Kerdau assemblyman, as well as Kuala Krau MP Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said.
Tengku Abdullah also urged the victims to remain calm in facing the difficult times, while at the same time be thankful that there were no loss of life.
Earlier, the Tengku Mahkota also attended a 15-minute briefing on the thunderstorm given by Chairman of the Temerloh District Disaster Committee Datuk Mohd Fadzli Mohd Kenali, who is also the district officer. Tengku Abdullah also visited the affected homes before attending break-of-fast event with the people at the Kuala Tekal Mosque here.
During the thunderstorm at 6.30pm last Saturday, 146 homes, 21 stalls and shops, a mosque, two suraus and four public building in three villages were damaged, affecting 753 people and causing losses estimated at RM620,000. — Bernama
