Gathering of witness statements over Syed Alman's death completed

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have completed recording statements of witnesses over the death of the deputy prime minister's son-in-law, Datuk Syed Alman Zain Syed Alwi while he was undergoing dental treatment at a private clinic in Bangsar here last month.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said however, the police were still waiting for a statement from a health ministry expert before sending the full report to the Attorney-General's Chambers.
"We have completed, from the aspect of the witness statements, and are now awaiting the expert's statement only.
"An announcement on the full report will depend on the expert's report and I think the report will take some time ... so we will wait. I am not sure if this is the work of the hospital," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after attending a presentation ceremony of 55,000 Hari Raya food packets from the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) for security forces here today.
The contribution was handed over by Bakti president, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, who is also the prime minister's wife.
Earlier, the police recorded statements of 11 individuals, including the two dentists who treated Syed Alman, who was the son-in-law of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Yesterday, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said the ministry had completed investigations into Syed Alman's death.
Meanwhile, Noor Rashid said the police had detected two of the 23 children in the country who were victims of convicted British paedophile, Richard Huckle.
He said at the moment, the police were in the process of providing counselling service to the children and when the victims' condition stabilised, their statements would be recorded. — Bernama
