PUTRAJAYA: A local celebrity from Ipoh is believed to have bid close to RM5 million to own Putrajaya's "F 1" registration number plate after the bidding submissions closed at noon today at the Road Transport Department (RTD) headquarters.
Sources told theSun that the bidding frenzy for a single digit number has reached unprecedented levels as challengers placed half a million ringgit as the minimum figure to own "F 1" until "F 7".
It is learned that the bidding price for "F 8" started from RM1 million as several outstanding moguls yearn for this particular digit which is considered eminent in Chinese culture.
The F 333 and F 888 number plates also received high submissions with RM330,000 and RM360,000 recorded as starting bids.
The results of the bidding will be announced on June 30 after a special committee finalises the bidding details.
The highest prices of bidding for number plates ever recorded in RTD history were RM748,000 for W 1 N and RM520,000 for WWW 1 by Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar in 2014 and 2012 respectively.
