LRT3 jobs out in 2 to 3 months’ time: Prasarana

KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd will begin awarding the packages for the 37km Bandar Utama-Klang Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3) project in two to three months’ time, said its president and group CEO Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz.
“It will be announced progressively. Within two or three months, we are going to announce the award of the first few packages for works on staff quarters, advance work and some work for the depot in Johan Setia. Subsequent to that will be other packages that we’ll start to announce,” he told reporters at the announcement of the Phase 2 prequalification results yesterday.
He said the concept design has been completed and it is now working on the detailed design, after which it will issue out the tender in packages and subsequently award the packages.
Azmi said the first set of tenders involves preliminary work, for preparation of the site as well as building of workers’ quarters and identification of the actual sites.
“We have also confirmed the location of all the 26 stations, the footprint. We have also started the land acquisition. So today, we have the first hearing about some of the land to be acquired in phases, which is going to start sometime this month,” he added.
On the value of the packages, he said it can only be ascertained after completion of the design and tender process.
Yesterday, Prasarana announced the 24 companies that have prequalified for three LRT3 system work packages, namely track works and conductor power rails, depot equipment and track maintenance vehicles, and automated fare collection.
“This is the final prequalification. After this is the issuance of the tender packages where we will invite all the prequalified companies that was announced in May and also today, to participate according to the packages that we are going to roll out,” said Azmi.
Last month, Prasarana announced the Phase 1 prequalification results, whereby 96 companies successfully prequalified for eight packages. The entire tender period will end with the final award of the last scheduled tender by the second half of 2017.
