Former PKR MP detained by MACC

PETALING JAYA: A former PKR MP has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly accepting a RM30,000 bribe from a contractor.
He is also alleged to have cheated several disabled person of their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) deposits.
When contacted, a MACC source confirmed the incident, but declined to elaborate.
It is learnt that the former Kapar MP, S. Manickavasagam (pix), also a PKR division chief in the state was detained by MACC officers on Wednesday and released on bail this morning.
It was also learnt that the former MP was caught red-handed with a large amount of money.
Meanwhile, PKR vice-president Tian Chua has confirmed that Manickavasagam was detained by MACC officers on Wednesday.
"We will get a detailed explanation from him over the matter," he told a press conference here.
He said details of the arrest were "still sketchy" and it was unfair to pre-judge anyone.
"Probably after the two by-elections, the leadership will call him up to hear his version. We can assure you that we will not defend any form of wrongdoing," he said.
Tian Chua also urged those concerned not to link the arrest to the ongoing by-elections.
"We call upon the MACC to carry out their duty in a transparent and fair manner and not link this with the by-elections," he said.
