KUALA KANGSAR: Will the people of Kuala Kangsar elect another woman candidate to replace previous heavyweights like Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz who represented the parliamentary constituency from 1982 to 2013?
The two female contenders in the four-cornered fight are Barisan Nasional's (BN) Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid and PAS candidate Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad who are up against Amanah's Prof Dr Ahmad Termizi Ramli and independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.
Before the late Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad won the seat in the 2013 general elections, the royal town was represented by two other women MP's before Rafidah's long tenure - Onn Zariah Abu Bakar (1974-78) and Yong Fatimah Mohd Razali (1978-1982).

There are 32,949 voters in the constituency, of which 17,002 or 51.06% are women and the remaining 15,947 are male voters, which might likely give an edge to a woman candidate.
BN will have an advantage as Mastura's carries the legacy of her husband who was well liked by the people.
However there were rumbles within the BN camp itself that Mastura was not a suitable candidate, adding to the fact that she was observing the mourning period "iddah" for her husband, and therefore would not be able to campaign in person.
Those within the party who defended her candidacy said she was the best choice as the voters were familiar with her.
Mastura's four sons, Wan Emir Astar 26, Wan Imar Izzat 25, Wan Iskandar, 23 and Wan Muhammad Amar, 19, took on the task of campaigning on behalf of their mother to woo the voters.
Recorded messages from Mastura were also screened during ceramahs' organised by BN.
