Senior cop held after adopted son stole his gun

KUALA LUMPUR: Sheer negligence of leaving his service pistol unattended landed a senior police officer in trouble when the man's adopted son took the firearm without his knowledge and used it to threaten several staff of a five-star hotel in the city centre.
The case occurred on Monday when the assistant superintendent of police's (ASP) 20-year-old adopted son allegedly held a wild party in a room at the hotel and demanded the hotel staff to extend his stay.
When the youth was asked to pay for the stay extension, he allegedly whipped out a pistol and pointed it at a staff.
Another staff managed to pacify the youth and led him back to his room before calling the police.
The youth was arrested after the police arrived but the pistol was not found.
Ten other men and women, several who were foreigners who were at the party with the youth were also detained.
The suspect told investigators that he had taken the pistol from the ASP who is attached to a police district headquarters in the Klang Valley. The suspect and those detained tested positive for drug abuse.
Later, the ASP, in his 50's, who learned that he was being sought after, showed up at the Dang Wangi police headquarters where he was then detained.
It is learned that the officer who is attached to anti-narcotics police surrendered his pistol and underwent a drug abuse test which turned out to be positive. It is yet to be known how the officer had recovered the pistol from his adopted son soon after the youth had used it to intimidate the hotel staff.
Dang Wangi police chief ACP Zainol Samah told theSun that the police officer and the other suspects were remanded for four days and are being probed for criminal intimidation and other offences related to the firearm.
He said all the suspects also face action for drug abuse.
"Investigations are ongoing and on completion, we will submit our findings to the Attorney-General Chambers." he said.
