MALACCA: Historical Malacca City Council has taken down six billboards in the last three weeks to prevent a repeat of the May 24 billboard collapse which killed a security guard.
The mayor, Datuk Zainal Hussin said the billboards, which were either illegal or unsafe were located in its administrative area, including Bandar Hilir and Taman Melaka Raya.
"We will carry out this effort regularly to prevent a recurrence of the tragic incident," he told reporters after visiting Klebang Bazaar here last night.
On the progress of investigation into the billboard collapse, Zainal said a comprehensive investigation was carried out and the result would be announced at the state exco meeting soon.
In the 7.15am incident, senior citizen Ahmad Yusop had stopped his motorcycle at the Jalan Pokok Mangga traffic light junction while on his way home to Taman Tangga Batu here, when a billboard fell on him.
He died on the spot. — Bernama
