HULU TERENGGANU: "Indeed, it's terrible, bought 'kueh' (cakes) and a dish which were already going bad".
This was among the status uploaded by a customer via a group Facebook in the district who were disappointed with traders at the Kuala Berang bazaar who sold stale food.
The status was uploaded by a consumer using the name Laksa Laksam on Thursday and garnered 176 likes and also received more than 50 supporting comments which also expressed the same woe they faced.
Cik Nisa, who also uploaded a comment on Laksa Laksam's status, said she was also aggrieved when the cakes she bought were bad.
"The 'kueh' that I bought yesterday had gone bad. The 'murtabak' did not taste good. Don't know the 'ayam golek' was from when. Definitely frustrated," she said.
Another consumer, Meq Shaa said she had to frequent the loo due to diarrhea after consuming food bought from the bazaar.
"I could have bought a dish that had been reheated. I had stomach aches until morning and vomited too, and had to visit the toilet a lot. It could be dangerous. How nice of them to sell rotten food. Indeed, it could be pitiful if kids eat the stuff," she said.
Another consumer, Aisyah Aziz also uploaded a status on the same day voicing her disappointment when the soya drink she bought had gone bad.
"Bought bazaar soya drink which had gone bad. So treacherous, to dupe unwary buyers," she said.
The status also garnered 150 likes and 97 supporting comments.
Yesterday, a Facebook user Zainab Zainab also uploaded a status when 'ketupat' she bought to take to the surau turned out to be bad and the status was shared by her daughter Ameera Syahida in the district group Facebook.
"Bought 'ketupat' sambal at the Ramadan market. Trader mixed the good ones with the bad. How nice..especially when we buy in a large quantity to take to the surau. What kind of behaviour is this. Not following god's law in trading...repent. Next time don't do this again," she said.
The status attracted the attention of 112 Facebook users. Zuaya Zuwa said the story of stale food at the district Ramadan bazaar was not new but occurred almost every year to the point it had frightened her off from going to the bazaar.
"Every year there will be a case of stale food in Kuala Berang. That is why I am not keen to go to the Ramadan bazaar. Better buy in the villages, it is also cheaper," he said.
Meanwhile, Matleq Dcni urged the authorities to take prompt action as many consumers had been victimised.
"Many have fallen victims recently. I have fallen victim. My friend bought 'rojak ayam' and I bought a soya drink. Both were bad. The authorities should take action," he said.
Meanwhile, a Bernama check at the bazaar since two days ago found the rain had greatly dampened the sale at the bazaar.
There was a possibility that some traders took the easy way out by selling items which were not sold the previous day to avoid wastage.
The authorities must take prompt action to prevent an incident which resulted in the death of a five-year-old child from food poisoning two years ago from recurring. — Bernama
