Amanah's achievement in twin by-elections is something to be proud of: Mohamad Sabu

PETALING JAYA: Parti Amanah Negara's "achievement" in the recently concluded twin by-elections is something to be proud of, said party president Mohamad Sabu (pix).
He said despite being only formed about nine months ago, and facing three-cornered fights, the party managed to claim the "second spot" in Sungai Besar behind Barisan Nasional (BN) and finishing third in Kuala Kangsar behind PAS, with a mere 800 votes difference.
"Even though we were not victorious, Amanah's participations in both the by-elections have at least introduced the party's name not only to voters in both the constituencies, but also Malaysia," he said in a statement today.
Mohamad acknowledged that the squabble between opposition members PAS and Pakatan has, to some extent, contributed to confusion among the voters, where else BN had the luxury of going straight on against the opposition.
He said Amanah and Pakatan Harapan would conduct a post mortem in the near future to evaluate and reorganise the opposition coalition's strategy in facing BN in the 14th General Election.
"This is a good start for us, and we should maintain this momentum going into the GE14. Any weaknesses will be improved from time to time, and let's continue working hard for the future," he said.
BN's Sungai Besar candidate Budiman Mohd Zohdi polled a total of 16,800 votes, defeating his two other political opponents with a massive majority of 9,191 votes, while Kuala Kangsar candidate Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid, won the seat with a clear majority of 6,969 votes.
