IPOH: Perak Mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria today clarified that newly elected Kuala Kangsar MP Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid (pix) will be able to come out of her house to meet constituents.
Currently, she is confined to her home as she is observing "iddah" (a grieving period of four months and 10 days as required by religious law when a widow is not allowed to leave her home).
Mastura won the seat in a four-cornered fight in the by election on June 18.
The polls was held after her husband Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad died in a helicopter crash with five others in Sebuyau, Sarawak on May 5.
She was absent during campaigning but her four sons together with the Barisan Nasional machinery went down to meet the voters.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir said: "I met Harusaani and explained she can go out and meet the public with guidelines.
"As an elected representative, she has to address issues faced by the constituents," he told reporters after chairing the weekly exco meeting here today.
Zambry stressed that no one should confuse the rakyat with the announcement as she is only carrying out her duties as an MP.
Earlier Harussani had said Mastura has a responsibility and was allowed to go out to offer assistance and solve issues if there is a request from the people.
She also had to follow certain conditions when she is out in public.
Zambry also took Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua and Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli to task for questioning the decision of voters to select the BN candidates for the Kuala Kangsar parliament seats.
"The people of Kuala Kangsar used their maturity to vote in a candidate who will bring development as well as solve issues," Zambry said.
