A fruit full of goodness

    EVERY year in May, fruit lovers look forward to one of their favourite and most nutritious fruits to line up the shelves of supermarkets and fruit stalls. This year, marketer of kiwifruit, Zespri, introduced its “Wake Up With Zespri” campaign while promoting its Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit.
    IN THE BEGINNING
    The new variety is the outcome of years of crossbreeding by New Zealand kiwifruit growers. Experiments were carried out way back since the 70s, when seeds were imported from China. A female plant was chosen for its yellow flesh and excellent flavour and crossbred with a male plant to produce large, succulent fruit.
    In 1992, an offspring from this crossbreed resulted in the golden, succulent and tropical-sweet kiwifruit we now know as Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit.
    AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
    With the availability of this amazing fruit that tops the nutrition chart, Zespri Malaysia decided to highlight its goodness and benefits. Through the company’s Wake Up With Zespri campaign, a consumer outreach programme was established. Sampling promotions in and out of stores were conducted, along with a special tie-up with The Coffee Bean &Tea Leaf company, where consumers who purchased a breakfast set within a specific time-frame in May, were given a free Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit.
    In another endeavour, Zespri ran its Zespri SunGold Kiwifest on May 29, 2016 at Desa Parkcity. The regional campaign kicked off there and was followed with similar branding and promotional events in Singapore and Australia.
    More than 1,600 people turned up for the event here where loads of fun and informative activities were held. From pop-pilates by founder of Blogilates founder Cassey Ho from Los Angeles to activities by LeelaPass – a famed child enrichment centre, entertainment was aplenty and the Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit received recognition.
    The kiwifest certainly saw many families and friends gathering to enjoy the kiwifruit along with the other treats, including engaging plus educational activities.
    On the whole, the aim to spread awareness on starting each day with a kiwifruit for a healthy and happy life full of goodness, vigour and vitality, like a Zespri Kiwifruit, was achieved.
