PETALING JAYA: Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pix) has reiterated that he has nothing against former deputy prime minister turned opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is currently serving a five-year jail term for a sodomy conviction.
"I have nothing against him now. It was before," he said in an interview with Mehdi Hasan on the show UpFront by the Al Jazeera news network.
Mahathir however, remained unrepentant on Anwar's imprisonment saying that he had no power over the jailed politician's release.
"I have no power to order anyone to be released," he said.
"His detention now is not because of me, it's because of Najib," he added in reference to current Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
In the interview, Mahathir was asked about corruption during his time as prime minister as compared to now.
Mahathir was asked a slew of questions including on his campaign to get Najib out of office and on the possibility of his son Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir becoming the prime minister.
The interview with Mahathir will air tonight on Al Jazeera at 11.30pm, tonight.
