PARIT BUNTAR: Muslims are urged against paying the tithes directly to the recipients (asnaf) as this is forbidden, said Perak Mufti Tan Sri Dr Harussani Zakaria.
He said they were advised to pay the tithes to the tithe centres appointed by the government in every state.
"According to the syariah law, when a certain body has been appointed by the government to collect the tithe, everyone is compelled to pay the tithe to that body.
"This is because the body has been directed to search and gather the eligible recipients for the distribution of the tithes collected," he said.
He disclosed this at a media conference after a ceremony to hand out Hari Raya Aidilfitri aid to 300 poor people and contributions to the Perak Islamic Religion and Malay Customs Council (MIPPk) by the Yayasan Muhibbah Fng Ah Seng here, today. — Bernama
