TTDI residents object to proposed development in Taman Rimba Kiara

KUALA LUMPUR: Residents at Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (TTDI) today expressed disappointment on the proposed service apartments at the Taman Rimba Kiara (TRK) public park, here.
Its residential association chairman Abdul Hafiz Abu Bakar deemed plans for the development as an "immoral act" because it could lead to a massive traffic congestion with nine 52-storey blocks expected to be built.
He added other reasons behind their objection is because the TRK is zoned as an "Open Space" and should continue to remain as a public park.
He also noted that long-term residents living within the park, who were formerly rubber tappers, have been promised by the government to upgrade their homes.
"We have no objections to the 'rumah panjang' residents but the park's preservation must be maintained," he told reporters here after speaking to some 150 residents in a town hall meeting.
Earlier, he announced that a protest against the property development will be held tomorrow at 11am and petitions will be submitted to the Federal Territories Ministry, City Hall and the Prime Minister.
When asked by concerned individuals if legal action can be taken against the move, he said the matter will be discussed as a next course of action.
The land is under the Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan, he said.
Checks by theSun showed that the objection dateline to the project placed on the notification board in the park was yesterday.
