KOTA BARU: Umno's decision to sack Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir yesterday was aimed at restoring discipline among party members.
Its Supreme council member, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, said the move had to be taken to safeguard the common interests of the party and to serve as a warning to any member so as not to commit a breach of discipline in the future.
"We have a law, in which no one can be spared from facing any action. If there is no discipline, then the party will be doomed. (So) in order to maintain public interest, stern action should be taken.
"It shows that we love the party, we want to restore discipline and give a warning to those who commit a breach of party discipline. We are an organisation with rules and regulations, no one is spared," he said.
Mustapa told reporters after visiting Mek Som Mat Diah, 89, at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Kubang Kerian here. Mek Som suffered injury after her left leg was severed by a drug addict last Sunday. — Bernama
