PETALING JAYA: The remand order for Datuk R.Sri Sanjeevan, chairman of anti-crime movement MyWatch has been extended until Monday.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said while Sanjeevan's initial remand order ended today, it was extended further to facilitate investigations into the case.
"Our (police) priority is to find justice in the matter and the remand order for him (Sanjeevan) have been extended until Monday," Khalid told theSun when contacted.
On Wednesday night, Sanjeevan and his foreign driver were detained to facilitate investigations into an alleged bid to extort "protection" money from an illegal gambling operator.
Sanjeevan, 31, was alleged to have contacted the 38-year-old at about 2pm on Wednesday and threatened to expose the latter's gambling operation unless he was given protection money.
The operator then lodged a police report against Sanjeevan.
Khalid said on Friday that the operator is currently being protected under Witness Protection Act 2009 and the operator have been a cooperative informant.
It is also reported that three additional police reports have been lodged against the non-governmental organisation watchdog leader for allegedly extorting money from three individuals.
