Hawker who impersonated Johor Sultan, claims trial

JOHOR BARU: A hawker claimed trial at the magistrate's court here for impersonating the secretary of the Johor Sultan on Sunday.
The accused, Surain Naidu a/l Soorianarayanan, from Pasir Gudang was charged under Section 419 of the Penal Code for impersonating the secretary and collected money from the victim, Sukumaran a/l S.K. Murugan to allegedly help Sukumaran's father to be released from the Changi prison, Singapore.
The accused allegedly collected the money between May 12 last year till June 9 this year amounting to RM52,800.
If found guilty, he could face a 7 year jail term, fine or both upon conviction.
The accused also faces another charge under Section 420 for allegedly claiming himself as a Sami (priest) and taking RM559,500, a golden ring worth RM166,000 from Rajkumar a/l Vijayan between Nov 2011 till April 2012 to allegedly help the victim solve his family problems.
He was charged under Section 420 of Penal Code for cheating which carries a jail term up to 10 years and whipping or fine upon conviction. He was unrepresented.
